Exxon Valdez Oil Spill
AMS was selected by the US and State of Alaska Trustee
Council to provide Chief Scientist services (Dr. Robert
Spies) for the government's investigations of natural
resource damages from the Exxon
Valdez
oil spill.
Dr. Robert Spies, President of AMS, has been chief
scientific advisor to the Exxon Valdez Trustee Council
since 1991 and has helped guide the Damage, Assessment
and Restoration Program. Dr. Spies has also been a
principal architect in the development of the Gulf
Ecosystem
Monitoring Program. This 100 year program will
incorporate measurements from a host of sources, including
meteorological and climate monitoring, biological
assessment, fisheries assessment, and other monitoring.
