Chevron Estero Bay Marine Terminal Abandonment,
Morro Bay, CA.
AMS was selected by Chevron Pipeline Company, the California State
Lands Commission and the California Coastal Commission to provide
third-party environmental mitigation and permit compliance monitoring
for the partial abandonment of the Chevron Estero Bay Marine Terminal
effort. This three year project involved the removal of mooring
anchors, buoys and chain from two oil tanker moorings, the locating,
excavation and testing of pipeline contents from three abandoned
oil terminal pipelines, and the removal of all onshore equipment,
anode beds, power cables and other structures located along the
beach and intertidal zones in a highly sensitive marine environment.
An area-wide biological survey of sub-tidal habitats was required
in the second year of the project to ensure pipeline abandonment
activities would not impact sensitive hard bottom habitat. Protection
of marine mammals (sea otters, California sea lions, harbor seals
and migrating whales.
Global West Fiber Optic Cable Project
AMS provided environmental mitigation and permit compliance monitoring
support for responsible federal and state agencies, including the
California Coastal Commission and California State Lands Commission
for the onshore to offshore horizontal directional boring portion
of this seven cable fiber optic cable installation project. The
Global West project involved offshore cable landing in San Diego,
Manhattan Beach, Santa Barbara and Morro Bay, California. This project
entailed daily compliance and permit monitoring and documentation
of project activities by on-site observers at three or more of the
sites. Daily reports of these activities were posted daily to a
limited access website established for the project. A detailed final
project report was prepared documenting overall project compliance
with individual project requirements. AMS personnel also facilitated
resolution of project execution deviations from pre-approved plans
with state agency personnel and the project applicant.
Pacific Crossing and Pan American Crossing Fiber
Optic Cable System
AMS provided onshore and offshore mitigation monitoring support
for responsible state, federal and local agencies for this three
cable fiber optic cable laying project in Grover Beach, California.
AMS managed the environmental mitigation/permit compliance and archeological
monitoring of the onshore directional boring and trenching phases
of the project as well as the environmental mitigation/permit compliance
and marine mammal monitoring for the offshore cable burial phase
of the project. The offshore components of the project required
supporting two separate cable laying vessels conducting simultaneous
operations. Because of the size and complexity of this project,
AMS managed the employees of four sub-contractors, as well as its
own employees to meet all of the project and operational requirements.
